The Student Mobility app makes studying abroad easy! This app originated from the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) project launched in the Netherlands in 2016. Through close cooperation with higher education institutions, it helps more and more international students cope with the challenges of study and life. Especially in terms of public transportation, Student Mobility has cooperated with "Study in Holland" to launch the ISIC Mobility Card, which provides discounted public transportation services for international students. Today, this project has developed into an independent organization, focusing on the development of public and private services for international students. Actually, there is a story behind what we do. The student mobility project was launched in 2016 as part of the International Student Identity Card (ISIC) of the Netherlands. Speaking of ISIC, it has established close links with the international offices of many higher education institutions (HEIs).
Initially, ISIC focused on Dutch students going abroad, but as the number of international students grew (about 10% per year), the tasks and responsibilities of HEIs also changed.
In order to better understand the impact of this rapid growth on the education system and students, we decided to participate in the "Red Carpet" steering group of "Nuffic" and the "Mobstacles" network. Both are initiatives of the Dutch International Education Organization. Participating in various events and discussions made us aware of the challenges and difficulties that international students and HEIs face when facing increased student mobility.
For example, the first problem we wanted to solve was the accessibility of public transportation. So, together with "Study Holland" of Nuffic, we launched the ISIC Mobility Card, which allows international students who are not eligible for the "student travel right" to enjoy transportation discounts. This mobility program has become very popular among international students, so in 2021, we decided to separate the student mobility program into an independent organization, focusing on developing public and private services and products for international students. This transformation is not only to respond to the growing demand for student mobility, but also to better help international students adapt and integrate into the new learning environment. Such efforts are all in the hope of creating a more friendly learning ecology.
